Kelly Clarkson's daily Kellyoke segments seem and sound effortless, but it takes a lot of practice.
The singer and talk show presenter posted a step-by-step video of her viral episode on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Sept. 9.
"When they first started talking to me about doing a talk show, I asked why first of all, and then I was like, 'If I'm going to do it, I feel like I should do it my way,'" Clarkson, 42. "We had already been doing this thing called fan request on tour for years."
Clarkson presented Jason Halbert, her musical director and key Kellyoke player. "I'm a huge fan of music so I think it's really important to not get bored with your catalogue," stated. "
"I was curious how we were going to incorporate music into the show and I remember Alex [Duda] and Kelly talking about instead of doing a monologue every day we were going to do the fan request but we were going to call it Kellyoke."
He listed a step-by-step approach, including choosing a song, editing it to two minutes, tracking and recording it, generating a music chart, recording a reference, and Clarkson reviewing it at the end.
Halbert also said he keeps every email and social media song requests and Clarkson reviews them. She chooses based on her current connection.
Clarkson commented, "When I hear something that moves me I really want to perform it," selecting Benson Boone's "Beautiful Things" for this episode.
