Matt Stutzman, 41, won a gold medal in the men's individual compound open in Paris on Sunday, defeating China's Ai Xinliang and setting a Paralympics record with 149 points out of 150.
He got a silver medal at the Paralympics in London in 2012.
There was a lot of emotion, and I didn't expect this medal, but I knew going into this it was going to be my last Games.
Stutzman, from Fairfield, Iowa, is different from other para archers because most can use their arms to grasp the bow. Despite being born armless, Stutzman uses his legs.
Stutzman was the only Paralympic armless archer for years. In Paris, he is joined by three others:
Piotr Van Montagu from Belgium, Víctor Sardina Viveros from Mexico, and Sheetal Devi from India, the only woman and teenager with the group.
Devi, 17, made her Paralympic debut at 17 by opening the 1/8 elimination round of the women's individual compound open event with a bullseye that sent the crowd cheering and social media ablaze.
Some of the people who were surprised were French soccer player Jules Koundé and British host Piers Morgan.
