Thursday, day one of the Games, saw the spectacular Para cycling track women's 500m time trial C4-5 final.

Cox bolts. The reigning gold medalist from Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016, Great Britain's Kadeena Cox fell and crashed out in the first 50 metres.

Since her bike was mechanically sound, judges denied her the chance to have a restart.

Team officials escorted upset Cox off the course and assisted her in disconnecting from her bike.

Groot, who took bronze at the Tokyo Games, said the triumph was the best way to cap off her riding career before she retired.

Her average speed was 50.610 km/h. Her final time was 35.566 seconds.    Groot said she wasn't sure whether Cox would have a re-start following her race.
