Djankeu Ngamba wins Cindy. Her name will live on in Olympic records.
Ngamba became the first Refugee Olympic Team member to win an Olympic medal on Sunday by defeating French hope Davina Michel.
This means everything to me. Ngamba hoped to change his medal color in the next fight. "I want to tell the refugees around the world, keep on working hard, keep on pushing yourself and you can accomplish anything."
Ngamba faces Panama's Atheyna Bylon on Thursday for the gold medal. Ngamba will receive a bronze for her heroics at the North Paris Arena even if she loses her next bout.
Cameroon-born and UK-based Ngamba, one of the Refugee Olympic Team's two flagbearers at the Opening Ceremony, has been widely supported at the Olympics, while sixth seed Michel was gunning for victory on home soil, dividing the crowd.
Ngamba defeated Canada's Tammara Thibeault 3-2 in a split decision on Wednesday, and this time in red, she started aggressively against Michel with her refugee colleagues roaring.
In the first round, Ngamba won 10-9 on three of five scorecards, leaving Michel on the ropes after two minutes.
After taking the lead, Ngamba surged to a second-round triumph on all five scorecards.
