Paris 2024: France goes wild for Alexis Hanquinquant’s back-to-back gold

French fans gave Paralympian Alexis Hanquinquant a rockstar welcome during the Paris 2024 Paralympics, demonstrating his exceptional showmanship.

The 38-year-old maintained her scorching record on home ground on Monday, having not lost a race since Tokyo 2020.

The race favorite and flag bearer for France at the opening ceremony, Hanquinquant, lived up to the expectations of his horde of fans, winning the PTS4 race in 58:01 minutes.      

The time was about a minute quicker than his Tokyo gold medal winning Paralympic debut.

He had a significant advantage over his rivals after the swim leg and continued to expand that margin throughout

Concerns about the condition of the water forced a one-day postponement, but Paris brought the charm and beautiful weather for the highly anticipated Para triathlon.

The 45-meter-wide, 107-meter-long Pont Alexandre III, which spans the Seine's two banks in the heart of Paris, served as the starting and finishing point for the races.

There was a French marching band and the Eiffel Tower loomed in the horizon.

The race began with a 750-measurement swim in the Seine, followed by biking and running by famous sites including the Grand Palais.
