Following a remarkable performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by the Refugee Olympic Team, which resulted in the team's first national medal, the focus is now shifting to the Refugee Paralympic Team (RPT).
Refugee Paralympians will have the opportunity to compete at the Paralympic Games for the third time, and the Rio Paralympic Games in 2024 will feature the largest RPT ever.
The team will consist of eight athletes and one sighted guide, all of whom are refugees.
The eight contestants come from six different countries that are hosting the competition.
They compete in six different sports, including wheelchair fencing, wheelchair athletics, wheelchair powerlifting, wheelchair table tennis, wheelchair taekwondo, and wheelchair triathlon.
In the past, four of them have participated in the Paralympic Games,
with one of them competing as a refugee athlete at both the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 international competitions.
