Paris 2024: Wheelchair rugby in development with increasing female involvement

Sarah Adam became the first wheelchair rugby powerhouse USA female competitor at a Paralympic Games.

On day two of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, not one but two ladies descended the wheelchair rugby court as USA faced Japan in the preliminary round group A.

Seeing Sarah Adam of USA and Kae Kurahashi of Japan face each other unequivocally marks the increasing involvement of women in the contact sport also known as "Murderball," as a mostly male Para sport.

While Kurahishi was also the first to represent her nation when she competed at Tokyo 2020, therefore enabling Japan to take bronze at home, Adam is the first wheelchair rugby team member from the USA.

a close game where Japan prevails While both USA and Japan won their opening game at Paris 2024, only Japan could make it two out of two, defeating USA 45-42 in a close battle.

With nine tries, Adam is among the main ball carriers on the team and greatly helped USA score. With 19 runs, Chuck Aoki led the board; Josh Wheeler scored 6 runs.

Adam told the IPC.Veteran of the sport Chuck Aoki, team captain who has said he is looking for gold after two silvers from Rio 2016 as Tokyo 2020 and a bronze from London 2012, put the loss under control.
