Taylor Swift, a global music star, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris late Tuesday after her debate with former President Donald J. Trump.
Ms. Swift's support, delivered minutes after Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump left the Philadelphia debate stage, gives Ms. Harris an unmatched celebrity advocate and a huge boost to her campaign, especially among younger voters.
Ms. Swift posted on Instagram to her 283 million followers, “Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight.” I will vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in 2024.
She called herself “Childless Cat Lady,” an allusion to Senator JD Vance of Ohio's comments about childless women. Her post pic showed her clutching Benjamin Button, her Ragdoll.
Ms. Swift told Vogue in 2019 that she wanted to support Mrs. Clinton more but was afraid it might backfire. She worried Mr. Trump would “weaponize the idea of the celebrity endorsement” against her and Mrs. Clinton.
Ms. Swift made her first formal step into politics in 2018, when she endorsed Democrat Phil Bredesen over Republican Marsha Blackburn in the Tennessee Senate election.
(Ms. Swift lives in Nashville, which is the nation's country music capital.)
The summer before that election, everyone said, ‘She’s calculated,’” Ms. Swift said. Manipulative. She's not as shown.
She snakes. Liar, she is. People insulted Hillary with these identical words. Is I a liability or an endorsement?
