The Jets beat the Titans despite Aaron Rodgers' poor throwing game. A flash occurred in the third quarter.
The Jets saw a flash of why they paid so much to trade for Aaron Rodgers, why their hopes were so high last season before he tore his Achilles, and why replacing Zach Wilson with Rodgers this year was enough to spark a spark.
Rodgers reclined, ignoring the pocket collapse. Running back Breece Hall caught a disputed end-zone pass for a 26-yard score as he imitated the receiver. The Jets gained their first lead at 12:13 in the third quarter.
But game control was risky. The Jets defeated the Tennessee Titans 24-17 to go to.500 ahead of a divisional game against the Patriots on Thursday.
They did so despite a faltering passing game, especially downfield. In an 18-of-30 day with 176 yards and two touchdowns, Rodgers completed only three passes of more over nine air yards. The Jets won thanks to their rushing back duo and Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis' up-and-down day.
The Jets' 114 rushing yards and aerial touchdown reception came from Hall, who performed well last season after an ACL tear.
Fourth-round rookie running back Braelon Allen scored first on a 12-yard touchdown after Rodgers dumped it to him beyond the line of scrimmage. The Jets showed surprise trust in him. Allen ran between opponents on the ground for the go-ahead 20-yard touchdown.
Tennessee lost a lead again this week, and Levis gave up a critical turnover. When Jets cornerback Brandin Echols wrestled a deep pass from Titans receiver Treylon Burks, Levis threw an interception on his next snap after throwing a pick 6 to the Chicago Bears in the opener.
