Less than two minutes into the match between the Netherlands and Germany in the Nations League,
an in-form Ryan Gravenberch delivered a wonderful ball through to Tijjani Reijnders. The latter player had no choice but to put the Netherlands ahead of Germany.
This was the quickest goal scored by the Netherlands since Davy Klaasen scored after 55 seconds against Turkey in 2021.
It was recorded at one minute and 39 seconds into the contest, making it the fastest goal scored by the Netherlands since then.
However, that was not the most important record that was set by Reijnders' lightning-fast strike on account of the fact that it was Germany's first goal conceded in its history for fifty years.
The Netherlands scored that goal in the 1974 World Cup match versus Germany. In point of fact, the match took place.
Despite the fact that Germany has now recovered from that horrible beginning,
it was undoubtedly an unsettling case of déjà vu at the time.
