Celebrating its 50th anniversary on Sunday, November 7, the New York City Marathon features a highly unique field of wheelchair
racers comprising Madison de Rozario, the first meeting of Tokyo 2020 Paralympic champion, and silver medallist Manuela Schaer since the Games in August.
After it was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 epidemic, New York will witness more than 33,000 participants in this year's edition among one of the most popular marathon events worldwide.
The TCS New York City Marathon marks the last of the five World Marathon Majors scheduled for this year.
While Switzerland's great Schaer won the races in Berlin, London, and Boston, Tatyana McFadden, the 20-time Paralympic medallist, grabbed the trophy in Chicago.
Leading the World Marathon Majors rankings with 149 points ahead of McFadden in second place with 97 points, Schaer, the three-time NYC Marathon winner,
Though all eyes will be on the recently crowned Paralympic champion De Rozario, McFadden and Schaer will go against each other on the streets of New York.
In front of eight-time Paralympic medallist Schaer, the 27-year-old Australian wheelchair racer grabbed gold in a nail-biting finish.
