Colorado won 28-9 over Colorado State on Saturday to get back on track.
Shedeur Sanders threw two touchdown passes to Travis Hunter as Colorado State committed four turnovers. Two TD throws to LaJohntay Wester gave the Buffs (2-1) a 14-3 halftime advantage, and Hunter added to it in the second half.
However, Buffaloes remain a concern. Colorado ran well but preferred to throw. Micah Welch ran for 25 yards and the Buffs ran for 109. Sanders threw 49 times and Colorado ran 19 times.
Sanders wasn't fired by the Rams, but the offensive line demonstrated it's still improving. A lack of improvement may not matter against teams like Colorado State, but it will in conference play.
Colorado State quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi threw a terrible interception in the second half to extend the margin to three scores. Fowler-Nicolosi bizarrely threw across his body into the middle of the field with the Buffaloes leading 14-3 in the third quarter. Preston Hodge intercepted and Hunter scored his first TD a few plays later.
Hunter then intercepted Fowler-Nicolosi on fourth down late in the third quarter. He was also penalised for unsportsmanlike conduct. Hunter scored another receiving touchdown late in the third quarter.
Sanders completed 36-of-49 passes for 310 yards. Hunter completed 13 of those for 100 yards. Wester caught five for 80 yards.
Before visiting UCF, Colorado plays Baylor at home in Week 4 of the Big 12. Colorado State (1-2) plays UTEP at home next week in its final non-conference game before Mountain West play.
