The United States women's wheelchair basketball team opened Paralympic competition in Paris 2024 with a convincing victory over Germany.
Courtney Ryan led all scorers in the United States, with 17 points. Becca Murray had 13 points and 12 assists, while Ixhelt Gonzalez finished with 15 points.
Team USA took full advantage of Germany's 10 turnovers, turning those into 14 points. Germany managed just two points off of Team USA's four turnovers.
"It was a great way to set the tone and knock the nerves off, and we certainly know we've got huge games coming up, so good to come out aggressive.
Germany's always going to bring their A-game and that was a great first game for us," Team USA's Josie Alakson said afterward.
The biggest thing was to play together and play like we practised. I think in these positions it's so easy to try to do a little bit more because you're on this big stage
we just knew that we didn't need to do anything more than what we did in practice."
On Saturday, August 31, United States women will play against Tokyo 2020 Gold Medalists, Netherlands at 6:15 p.m. CEST (12:15 p.m.). E.T.
