Messi leads the field with a record eight wins from the coveted trophy, followed by Ronaldo with five.
The announcement of the Ballon d'Or 2024 nominations took place on Wednesday, marking the first time since 2003 that neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo had made the list.
Highlights of the list included England prodigy Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, and Erling Haaland; two young talents of Spain's 2024 European Championship squad,
Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, were also selected.
Messi received the coveted trophy eight times in a row after his initial nomination in 2006.
Their exclusion from the nomination list is probably because they are no longer playing in the top division of European club football;
Messi transferred to Inter Miami in the United States, and Ronaldo moved to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
For the first time in more than 20 years, neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo were on the Ballon d'Or 2024 nominee list, which was unveiled on Wednesday.
